Buddhists celebrate Makha Bucha Day in Thailand

Thai Buddhists across the country went early in the morning to the temples today to offer alms to the monks as a gesture of merit making to mark the Makha Bucha Day (4 March 2015).

In Bangkok, Buddhists crowded several temples this morning to make merits. Wat Saket also known as Golden Mount temple welcomes thousands of people who came to offer alms to the 99 monks and listen to their sermons.

The Makha Bucha celebration in Thailand started on March 2, the first day of the Buddhism Promotion Week. Bangkok Metropolitan Administration also held a big alms giving ceremony at Sanam Luang in front of Wat Phra Kaew temple. Thousands of Buddhists lined up to offer alms to 89 monks as a tribute to His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen.
