The best known and visited floating markets in Thailand are in Samut Songkram province about 80 kilometers from Bangkok but there are a few in Bangkok or in its immediate vicinity and soon there will be more in the center of the Thai capital city.

The new floating market was conceived by General Prayuth Chan-ocha, Prime Minister of Thailand. It will open near the Government House in Phra Nakhon district.

This is only a temporary market. So for four weekends, part of Phadung Krung Kasem Canal  (Thai: คลองผดุงกรุงเกษม) will be transformed into a floating market. Starting south of Lan Luang Road, the channel then descends to Hualamphong train station and continues southward along Mahaphurutharam Road and passes near the Wat Maha Phruttharam shortly before it flows into the Chao Phraya. The new floating market will be organised at the intersection of Ratchadamnoen Nok Road and Krung Kasem Road.

The new temporary floating market will be held for the first time from 12 to 15 February 2015 and will be open on Saturday and Sunday the next three weekends. It will take place from 10 am to 5 pm.

Boat tours organized by the city will be available for visitors twice a day at 4 pm and 5 pm for a maximum of 40 passengers but no doubt private boats will also offer tours in the market.

Otherwise, for floating markets lovers, we advise you to spend a weekend in Amphawa to visit its market and those nearby.
