Sukhothai Loy Krathong and Candle Festival from 2 to 6 November 2014
Every year the city of Sukhothai organizes in the Historical Park a big party to celebrate Loy Krathong. This year’s festivities will take place from 2 to 6 November 2014.

Although Loy Krathong Festival is now celebrated in all Thailand, the ritual was born in Sukhothai, the first capital of Thailand.
Every evening, the entrance to the Sukhothai Historical Park will be free and there will be a light and sound show at Wat Mahathat (not free). Visitors will see a procession of large krathongs from 17 northern provinces, a krathongs (floating rafts) design competition , Miss Noppamas beauty pagent, traditional dances performances , fireworks and a night bazaar for shopping, food stalls…
The main event of the Sukhothai Loy Krathong and Candle Festival will take place on the last evening. It’s that day that loy krathongs, the small floating rafts decorated with a candle and often one or more incense sticks will be put on the ponds of the park.
