Wat Pho in Bangkok, 8th unique attraction in Asia

The travelers’ review website TripAdvisor issued a new ranking, the 25 unique attractions in Asia or  best asian monuments if you prefer. Wat Pho is the first Thai landmark in the list. It comes eighth.

On the top of the 25 best attractions in Asia is Angkor Wat (Cambodia), followed by Taj Mahal (India), Bayon Temple in Angkor, Cambodia too, the Great Wall of China and the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon (Burma). No Thai monument in the top 5, but several are in the list. Wat Pho, Temple of the Reclining Buddha in Bangkok, takes 8th place, Grand Palace (10th), Temple of Dawn or Wat Arun (currently closed to the public for three years) (11th), Wat Phra Kaew or Temple of the Emerald Buddha (12th) and Wat Phra That Doi Suthep in Chiang Mai (21st).

The following are the Top 10 attractions in Thailand according to TripAdvisor visitors

  1. The Reclining Buddha or Wat Pho,  Bangkok
  2. The Grand Palace,  Bangkok
  3. The Temple of Dawn or Wat Arun, Bangkok
  4. Temple of the emerald Buddha,  Bangkok
  5. Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, Chiang Mai
  6. Jim Thompson’s House,  Bangkok
  7. Temple of the Golden Buddha (Wat Traimit), Bangkok
  8. Big Buddha, Phuket
  9. The White Temple or Wat Rong Khun, Chiang Rai
  10. The Golden Mount or Wat Saket,  Bangkok
