In Bangkok where trafic jam are very frequent, nothing is better to sneak into the trafic than a motobike. This is probably why Uber launched today its first motorcycle taxi service called UberMOTO in Bangkok.

“Uber’s objective is to provide a safe, reliable and affordable transportation to a touch of a button, wherever and for all. ” said Douglas Ma, responsible for the expansion of Uber Asia.

“With UberMOTO, we’re thrilled to introduce a product that resonates with Thai people and provides another easy and affordable option for short trips around town while creating tens of thousands of flexible work opportunities for Thais.”

The service will initially be launched in Sathorn, Silom and Siam. Users will be able to see the new option “UberMOTO” when they open their “old” Uber application.

Once you have applied for a driver and the application get you one, he will come to you with an helmet for you. That should encourage motorcycle-taxi drivers to provide more regularly helmets to their clients.

Uber has also partnered with Thai traffic police to work on motorcycle safety , and will make a donation of helmets to young students and adults.

If you are an “historic” user of Uber, you can get two free rides with UberMOTO. Just use the promotion code UberMOTOBKK  (each trip worth up to THB100, offer to be used before March 15).

And what about  UberTukTuk ? Because, let’s be honest, I am surprised that this service does not exist yet. But it should not be long before it comes alive…

Alternatively, to avoid Bangkok traffic, there is also the BTS Skytrain or MRT subway.
