Thailand is divided into 77 provinces, each offering its own cultural, historical, and natural richness. These provinces are spread across four main regions: the North, the Northeast (also known as Isan), the Central region, and the South.
In the North, you'll find provinces such as Chiang Mai, famous for its laid-back atmosphere, ancient temples, and lush green mountainous landscapes, or Chiang Rai known for its Golden Triangle, where the borders of Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand meet, as well as Sukhothai with its historical park, the most beautiful ancient site in the country.
The Northeast or Isan is home to less touristy provinces like Ubon Ratchathani, rich in traditions and cultural festivals, Khon Kaen, or Udon Thani. Many provinces along the Mekong River face Laos.
The Central Region is dominated by Bangkok, the vibrant capital of Thailand, as well as surrounding provinces such as Ayutthaya, a former royal capital steeped in history, or Kanchanaburi, known for the River Kwai Bridge and its World War II sites and Erawan waterfalls.
The South of Thailand is renowned for its paradise islands and white sandy beaches with crystal-clear waters. True postcard-perfect destinations that attract travelers from around the world. The most popular destinations include Phuket, Krabi, and the Gulf Islands (Koh Tao, Koh Phangan, and Koh Samui). There's also the stunning Khao Sok National Park and its lake.
Each province in Thailand has its own distinct identity, offering visitors a variety of cultural, culinary, and natural experiences to discover. Out of the 77 provinces, not all are touristy.
