General information about the province of Phetchaburi

Province of region Southern Thailand

Phetchaburi province is located in central Thailand, approximately 2 hours' drive from Bangkok. Little visited by foreign tourists, it has one of Thailand's two national parks classified as UNESCO heritage, the Kaeng Kracha National Park.

Its most famous monument is the palace of Phra Nakhon Khiri, also known as Khao Wang, but there is also a royal palace, very interesting ancient temples, cave temples including the most famous that of Khao Luang and the beaches. Visitors can also see the traditional salt farms which are the country's best known with those in Sakhon Nakhon province.

Phetchaburi is easily accessible by train from Bangkok and its Red Cross festival with fireworks on Phra Nakhon Khiri Mountain is undoubtedly the most beautiful in the province.
