Visit Khuk Khi Kai (Chanthaburi)

Chanthaburi Khuk Khi Ka
The ruin of this small prison is a remain of the 11-year short occupation of the region by the French. The principle is stated in the Thai name of the place whose literal translation means chicken poop prison. The tower consisted of a lobby where prisoners were locked up and a floor hosting dozens of chickens. The vice of this prison was that the ground of the first floor was perforated and excrements of the gallinaceae fell on the prisoners below. A good symbol of French good taste.

This is not THE a must visit in Chanthaburi but Khuk Khi Kai is located in Laem Sing, a very pretty seaside spot. Hardly further, on the road that leads to the bridge over the arm of the sea, is the Red House another remnant of the French occupation. And on the other side of the bridge there is a nice little white temple. If you have the opportunity, stay at Laem Sing in one of the numerous homestays near the mangroves. They all offer packages with accommodation and quite interesting activities . The difficulty may be to find one with a person who speaks good English.
