The Tham Khao Wang Thong (Tham in Thai means cave) is for me, one of the three must-sees in Khanom with pink dolphins and fun fish spas in the river. Taking a guide is mandatory to visit it. They will wait for you at the entrance of the park. After climbing the 300 steps leading to the small opening in the wall of the mountain, you arrive in a small sanctuary and then go deeper into a vast series of rooms with incredible stalagmites and stalactites that sometimes draw shapes similar to a Chinese goddess, a chedi, a dinosaur... To explore the cave, visitors must climb or bend in some areas. The soil sometimes wet especially during the rainy season (especially in November-December) may be slippery. So better it is to have good shoes and not come in with flip flops. You will also come across 2 types of bats, small and large.

I loved visiting this cave ! The guide was a local who spoke not so bad English and showed me all the nooks and crannies.

Practical information about Khao Wang Thong Cave

Free admission but donations are welcome because the cave is managed by the local villagers.
If taking a guide is mandatory there is no fare, you give them what you want once the visit is finished. Personally, I gave him 200 THB (I visited alone) but it is up to you. The guides provide you with lamps.
Khao Wang Thong Cave is open all year-round even during the rainy season it can someties be exceptionnally closed to visitors after a heavy downpour. It is open from 8:30 am to 4 pm. The visit of the cave is part of the tour offered by local agencies that starts in the morning with the pink dolphins.
The visit may not be suitable for everyone. You need to be able do bend oand not be afraid of bats or dark atmospheres.
