The Huay Mae Kamin waterfalls are located in the Khuean Srinagarindra National Park 95 km in the North of Kanchanaburi city. It is the same road to get there than the one that leads to the much better known
Erawan waterfalls but they are about forty kilometers further away and are much less crowded with tourists. Huai Mae Kamin Waterfalls also have 7 levels. When you park in the main car park, you are on level 4 but you can also park at the bottom of the waterfalls. In general, visitors mainly choose to descend from level 4 to the 1st level, which is, it must be said, the most interesting and easiest part to visit with its wooden walkways and stairs. Towards levels 5 to 7, there is more walking on gravel paths. Going up and down at the Huai Mae Kamin waterfalls is much easier than at the Erawan waterfalls where the path of the upper levels is a bit demanding.
It is allowed to bathe in the Mae Kamin waterfalls and the river but forbidden to use soap or shampoo. It is also forbidden to dive in the waterfalls or bring food and picnic. There is water all year round but the level obviously varies depending on the time of year, the more you are at the end of the dry season (around May), the lower the water level is. The waterfalls can also be temporarily closed following an episode of heavy rain. The place is more crowded on weekends and holidays, with more Thais coming on those days.
