With its traditional wooden houses, this is the emblematic street of Chiang Khan. This is also where most guesthouses and homestays (Bed & Breakfast) are located. But more important, it is in this street that every morning the monks from the city's bouddhist temples come to receive the rice, food and flowers donations locals or tourists give to them. This alms offerings exists throughout Thailand but In Chiang Khan it probably is the most spectacular one.
It is also in Chai Khong Road that all the little shops selling all kinds of products dedicated to Chiang Khan and restaurants with terrace facing the river are. Between shopaholics and those looking for a dinner in a pleasant setting (although these restaurants are often very crowded and therefore noisy), the street is very busy at night especially on weekends and holidays. But no doubt you will like go shopping there and buy some souvenirs.

The monks morning tour begins at sunrise, around 5:30 or 6 am. So you have to wake up early to attend or participate. If you stay in one of the accommodaton on Chai Khong Road, there will already be straw mattresses with small trays or baskets with alms for the monks in front of the house. You'll just have to pay their prices and take place. Otherwise, there are several small street stalls selling offerings kits.
As, I advise you to stay in this area in Chiang Khan and if possible in one of the guesthouses or one of the hotels with a view over the Mekong river, you will normally only have to go down from your room to arrive in the street in which the monks pass.
