If the sky lanterns release organized by the controversial (and venal) Dhammakaya Foundation is not the official\u00a0Yee Peng Festival<\/strong>, \u00a0I must say that the Buddhist Foundation is very good at\u00a0organizing spectacular events.<\/p>\n

We tried to find out some details about what was planned for the 2015 edition and did\u00a0not get any response from Chiang Mai TAT contacted by mail and this is one of our contacts\u00a0in Chiang Mai\u00a0(thanks Marco)<\/em> that finally gave us the latest news about yee Peng Festival at Mae Jo\u00a0confirmed by Thaizer<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

This year there will only be one\u00a0lanterns\u00a0release at Mae Jo and it will take place on November 25 and will be … NOT FREE\u00a0!<\/strong> No free realease in\u00a0Mae Jo in 2015. The decision apparently is due\u00a0to an\u00a0announcement of Chiang Mai provincial authorities that will only allow \u00a0lanterns to be\u00a0launched in the sky on Yee Peng Festival<\/strong> day (and Loy Krathong day) : November 25<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

So it is that day that the Dhammakaya Foundation will hold its Yee Peng International Festival<\/strong> <\/a>with those who have booked\u00a0in advance (around 3,500 baht). Quite\u00a0mercantile for a buddhist event even if\u00a0organizers justify this fee by the need to limit the crowd for security reasons. It is up to you to\u00a0decide if you want to pay that kind of money or not. Personally, I do not encourage you to go.<\/p>\n

Off course, the Yee Peng Festival<\/strong> is also held in Chiang Mai<\/a>\u00a0city and even if the most impressive lanterns release usually takes\u00a0place in Mae Jo, hundreds of sky\u00a0lanterns will also be launched on November 25 around the walls of Chiang Mai town center\u00a0and especially in the area around the Thapae Gate and on the banks of the Ping River.<\/p>\n

And if going to Mae Jo is not a good idea, you will still see beautiful ceremonies in the temples like\u00a0the candles ceremony at Wat Pan Tao.\u00a0So don’t worry, you’ll appreciate spending Loy Krathong and Yee Peng Festival in Chiang Mai in 2015<\/strong> anyway !<\/p>\n
