But martial law, what is it exactly ?<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3253\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3253\" style=\"width: 560px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thailandee.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/armee-thailande.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3253\" alt=\"Thai army declares martial law\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thailandee.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/armee-thailande-560x374.jpg\" width=\"560\" height=\"374\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3253\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Martial law was declared in Thailand on May 20<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thailandee.com\/blog\/en\/index.php\/1557-thailand-under-martial-law\">Martial law in Thailand<\/a> gives military the power to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Take action against war or riots<\/li>\n<li>Use arms to suppress unrest<\/li>\n<li>Search, confiscate or occupy any premises or vehicles<\/li>\n<li>Censor information<\/li>\n<li>Block, search and control postal services<\/li>\n<li>Activate the military court to judge on crimes within the area under martial law<\/li>\n<li>Mobilise civilians to help the military<\/li>\n<li>Procure resources such as vehicles or logistical materials to support military operations;<\/li>\n<li>Prohibit public gatherings, publications, broadcasting, transport, communication, travel, the movement of people or any action that the Defence Ministry deems necessary<\/li>\n<li>Enforce curfews<\/li>\n<li>Destroy, remove or adjust any premise or location for the purpose of military operations<\/li>\n<li>Arrest and detain suspects for a maximum of seven days<\/li>\n<li>People are not entitled to any compensation for damage incurred during such military operations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Martial law can only be lifted by a royal decree. In the current situation no curfew is expected and tourists can move freely and <a href=\"\/eng\/see-visit-thailand\/index.php\">visit Thailand<\/a> with no difficulty. The military presence is seen in the capital but causes no interference.
