Thailand islands dominate travellers’ Top 10 islands in Asia
It is almost a tradition since this classification exists, Thai islands are in very good position in the TripAdvisor Travellers Choice Top 10 Islands in Asia. The favorite island destination in Asia for TripAdvisorers is … in Thailand !
Half of the Top 10 is monopolized by Thai islands, the remaining ranks are occupied by Indonesia and the Phillipines with 2 representatives and Malaysia with one representative.
Top 10 best Asian islands (according to the TripAdvisor Travellers Choice 2015):
- Koh Tao in Thailand
- Bali, Indonesia
- Phuket in Thailand
- Koh Samui in Thailand
- Lombok in Indonesia
- Koh Lanta in Thailand
- Koh Phangan in Thailand
- Boracay Philippines
- Palawan Island in the Philippines
- Langkawi in Malaysia
A few months ago, I would have told you that seing the island of Koh Tao leading the Top 10 islands in Asia was not a surprise. But after the mysterious deaths and disappearances of some tourists on the island since last September, I thought Koh Tao will fall in the ranking.
In a general way, this Top 10 does not list the most beautiful islands but rather lists the more populaur islands among travelers addicted to TripAdvisor. And it is not the same thing ! TripAdvisor publishes the choice of travelers, that is where they are going the most, where there are the most tourists.
It is not their classification you must rely to find your paradise island in Thailand or in Asia or anywhere on the planet. TripAdvisor is about mass tourism.
Otherwise, worldwide, Koh Tao ranks 5th in the world’s top 10 islands and is the only Thai representative.
