River Kwai Bridge Week

Every year in late November, early December, in Kanchanaburi starts the River Kwai Bridge Week. This festival takes you back to the Second World War to commemorate the construction of the famous River Kwai Bridge which cost the lives of thousands of Thai people and Allied prisoners of war.

The week begins with a memorial service at the War Victims Cemetery and ofers a sound and light show that ends with fireworks shot from the bridge. The show ois usually given twice a day at 7:30 pm and 9 pm, but some days there is only a representation. Ticket prices: 300 baht (3,000 seats) and 500 baht for VIP seats (180 seats). But you can also see the fireworks without buying tickets.

Besides the sound and light show, cultural events and historical exhibitions are held throughout the 10 days of the festival. have look at the three museums in Kanchanaburi that reflect the history of the bridge: the JEATH or War Museum, the Thailand-Burma Railway Center and the Wolrd War II Museum.

Hotels in Kanchanaburi will have less available rooms than usual so if you plan to get there during theRiver Kwai Bridge Week , book in advance if possible.

This year the River Kwai Bridge Week will take place from 28 November to 7 December 2014.
