Chonburi Buffalo Racing Festival starts today
The Chonburi Buffalo Racing Festival is the biggest event organized by the capital city of the province where Pattaya is located. The edition of this year, which begins today and ends on October 10 promises to be the “bigger than ever” Tourist Authority of Thailand said.
The event was launched as a way to express gratitude to buffaloes working for farmers throughout the year. This year is the 143rd edition of the buffalo race, the only one of its kind in the world. It will be held on October 7 in front of the Chon Buri City Municipality Office.
In addition to the inevitable buffalo race, the week-long festival offers a wide range of fun activities such as the contest of the most healthy buffalo, a Buffalo Fashion Contest and a parade of beautifully decorated buffalo carts. Are also organized a beauty contest called “Miss Farmer,” a contest of amulets and a Martial Arts competition. Add a wide range of food and local crafts and local folk performances and concerts and you have the program of Chonburi Buffalo Racing Festival.
